American Film Institute Salutes Top Movies With Celebrity Hosts
The latest American Film Institute special, “AFI’s 10 Top 10″ (CBS, 8 p.m.), counts down the Top 10 films in 10 genres.
Jessica Alba will count down the Top 10 romantic comedies, Kirk Douglas the Top 10 epics and Clint Eastwood the Top 10 westerns.
Cuba Gooding Jr., still milking his Oscar role, will count down the best sports films. Other category assignments: Jennifer Love Hewitt, animation; Sigourney Weaver, sci-fi; Quentin Tarantino, gangster films; Sean Astin, fantasy; and Gabriel Byrne, mystery.
And courtroom dramas will be covered by James Woods, who was recently relieved of one.
Remote Patrol
The stark changes in China in recent years are seen through the four-year examination of nine young people on a new “Frontline” (CPTV, 9 p.m), where romance tends to play a bigger role in their lives than in the days of Chairman Mao.
It’s back to Boston for Game 6 of Lakers vs. Celtics (ABC, 9 p.m.).
The most odious man documented on reality TV — yes, even more odious than Spencer Pratt — must be the high-strung bully Jeff Lewis, a real estate flipper so self-involved, he’s practically imploding. If “Flipping Out” (Bravo, 10 p.m.) had a smidgen of useful information about home renovation, it might be worth stomaching his fussy coffee orders. But it doesn’t.
The argument against “America’s Got Talent” (NBC, 9 p.m) isn’t that there isn’t much future for either 11-year-old singers or ventriloquists (to name the winners of the past two seasons of the show) but that all entertainment value is judged by the least-talented panel of judges on TV: Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff. Here, host Jerry Springer seems like the sane one.
They’ve sold their inn, so the next, renamed season of “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” (Oxygen, 10 p.m.) follows their tedious lives back in the city. But any mystery surrounding the announcment of her second pregnancy and its gender has been undercut by news last week they gave birth to a girl.
In the best episode of “30 Days“ (FX, 10 p.m.) yet this year, a hunter agrees to stay with a family of animal-rights activists and, despite his considerable initial skepticism, is moved by animal misuse at giant corporate farms.
